SUMMARY
Today we make public our finalized, comprehensive brief to the Ontario Government which gives our feedback on the Government Summary of the proposed integrated accessibility standard. We are very eager for you to contact the Ontario Government to tell them if you endorse our brief. You can download our brief in MS Word format by clicking here:

On September 2, 2010, the Government made public a summary of the proposed integrated accessibility standard it plans to enact under the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act. That standard is supposed to address barriers facing persons with disabilities in transportation, information and communication, and employment. You can see the Government’s proposal at:

That proposed accessibility standard is very weak. Our brief details its many serious problems. We also offer 79 constructive recommendations on how to fix it.
It is absolutely crucial for as many people as possible to tell the Government what you think of its proposed integrated accessibility standard. As part of your feedback, please tell the Government if you support our brief. The Government has given the public until October 16, 2010 to give feedback.
Please write Premier McGuinty and Minister of Community and Social Services Madeleine Meilleur. You can write as an individual. If you are involved with a community organization, get it to write on behalf of that organization. If you are on a municipal accessibility advisory committee, please get your committee to write them. If not, write the Government on your own behalf as a member of an accessibility advisory committee.

Over the past weeks, we received excellent and very helpful feedback. In the finalized brief that we make public today, and that we have sent to the Ontario Government, we have done our best to incorporate as much of that feedback as we can. Our finalized brief includes all the contents of our original brief, and an additional 14 recommendations. We offer a huge thank you to all who took the time to review our draft and offer their great ideas.
