SUMMARY
There has been so much demand to attend the Friday, January 27, 2012 public forum at the University of Toronto on the Canadian launch of the World Disabilities Report. The organizers have therefore changed the location to
accommodate a larger audience. See their announcement below. The event will
still be at the same time, starting at noon this Friday.
Even with the new venue, the organizers have told us that they are already filled to capacity with people who already signed up to attend. But that doesn’t mean you should feel left out! The organizers have also let us know, that for anyone who cannot attend in person, the event will be broadcast live on the internet. The announcement below gives you the link to watch the event live. We understand that it will also be later archived on the web for future viewing. We don’t know what the link will be for that archive.
If you cannot attend the event in person, you can still send in questions. If your questions arrive before the event, the speakers will review them and try to incorporate them into their presentations. The organizers will also monitor questions that you send in during the event itself. When the time comes for questions from the audience at the public forum, the speakers will be asked both questions from the live audience that are physically present, and a selection of some of the questions that are sent in over the internet.
There are two alternative ways for you to send in a question.
1. You can email a question to:

2. You can send your question in a tweet on Twitter. Just be sure to include #wrpdw in the tweet, so the organizers can track it.
We are indebted to the event’s organizers for inviting the AODA Alliance Chair, David Lepofsky to take part in this event as one of the speakers. We are also indebted to so many people who showed an interest in attending. It is because of that outpouring that the organizers have taken these added steps to enable as many as possible to enjoy this public forum.
Please spread the word about this Friday’s event. Encourage them to watch the event on the internet if they have not already signed up with the organizers to attend in person.

The World Report on Disability
is the first of its kind, providing guidance on implementing the United Nations
Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) and giving an
extensive global picture of the situation of people with disabilities, their
unmet needs, and the barriers they face to participating fully in their
societies. This panel will bring together the lead author of the report with key
disability activists to discuss the report and its implications for Canada’s domestic and global
responsibilities towards people with disabilities.
Keynote address:
Dr. Tom Shakespeare
Dr. Tom Shakespeare
is the editor of the World Report on Disability.
He has published extensively in disability studies and bioethics,
including The Sexual Politics of Disability (1996) and Disability Rights and
Wrongs (2006). Disabled himself, Dr.
Shakespeare has been active in the disability community for 20 years.
Dr. Shakespeare joined the World Health Organization’s Disability and
Rehabilitation Team in 2008.
